Every metaBOX has flat fields moulded into it for a sticker:
on the side walls, on the front below the latches and on the back - and on a
rack, on the frame and at both ends of each drawer. The lid panel and the
latches, where Logo Render prints, take a label too, and so does a card pinned
up inside the lid. This designs the sticker
for each one and saves it as a PDF the exact size it is printed at.
Step by step
- Choose the case. Case, top left. The model shows every
field it has, outlined in red - on a rack, the frame's and both drawers'
at once.
- Pick a field. Click one on the model or its name under
Label fields. The sticker is the field less 2 mm all round, rounded
down to the whole millimetre - on the lid and the latches, Logo Render's
area, which is already clear of the edge - and the editor shows it at its
own proportions with the edge of the field dashed around it.
- Add text. Choose Text and click on the label. Type in
the box on the right; pick the font, the size in points, bold, italic, the
alignment and the colour. Several lines are fine.
- Add a picture. Picture…, or drop a file on the label:
PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, SVG, PDF, EPS or Illustrator AI. A plain background is
found and taken out, as in Logo Render; Crop trims it to the part you
want.
- Draw. Line, Rectangle and Ellipse: drag on
the label. Each has a line colour and width, and a shape can be filled.
- Add a QR code. QR code and click on the label. It holds
either a Link of your own - your inventory, a shared list, a web page - or
plain Text a phone shows as it is, such as a name and a phone number. Nothing
of this site is in it, so a printed code keeps working. The note under it says
whether a phone will read it at that size.
- Arrange. Click anything to select it. Drag it to move it,
drag a square handle to resize it - Shift keeps the proportions - and the round
one above it to turn it. The arrow keys nudge by half a millimetre, with Shift
by five. The numbers on the right place it exactly.
- Tidy up. Remove or the Delete key takes the selected
element away, Duplicate or Ctrl+D copies it, Undo and Redo
step back and forth, and To front / To back change what is on top.
The zoom under the label - or + and -, or Ctrl and the wheel - enlarges it, with
scroll bars to get about; Fit all or 0 shows all of it again.
- Save it. Save PDF for the label you are on, or
All labels (ZIP) for every label of this case, one PDF each.
Worth knowing
- Copy this label to puts this design on any other field, or on every
other field at once - of this case, or of another one picked above the field
list, where the same field is offered first. On a field of another size it keeps its size and is
centred, so what hangs over is resized there rather than drawn again.
- Your labels are kept in this browser, per case and per field, and are
still there when you come back. Save project writes them to a file you
can open again elsewhere; Clear all labels starts again from nothing.
- The fonts are open-licence and go into the PDF with it, so the printer does
not need them installed. Several stand in for one that is not free and say
which: Arimo for Arial, Jost for Futura, Osifont for ISO 3098 drawing
lettering, Courier Prime for Courier, Inter for Apple's San Francisco and
EB Garamond for Apple Garamond. Osifont has no bold, as ISO lettering has
none.
- A white background is printed; Clear foil leaves the sticker
transparent where nothing is drawn.
- Printer marks in the corners puts light dashed cut marks round the
sticker, on a page 6 mm bigger all round; without them the page is exactly
the sticker.
- Lid inside, card is a communication card pinned up inside the lid
with push pins through the holes in its ribbing. It is the largest card that
lies flat there, less 1 mm all round. Every hole a pin can go through is
marked: a cross to push the pin through, and dashed round it the 15 mm the
pin's head covers. The model opens the lid to show it. Pin marks on the
card prints the marks too.
- On the 95 M and 100 S lid, posts for the inset boxes ring most of the holes.
The card goes over them: each ring is marked in red with a 20 mm circle to
punch out, and pins go only in the holes without posts.
- A4 sheet outline draws where an A4 sheet, landscape and across the
top of the card, would end - on every lid but the 63 XS, 95 M and 100 S - to cut an A4 print to, or to see what
it would leave bare.
