This one is for a picture rather than a measurement: a case
with your artwork printed on it, lit well enough to put in front of a client,
and saved as a PNG with nothing behind it.
Step by step
- Choose the case. Case, top left, and a Drawer
beside it where the product is a rack.
- Add the artwork. Your logos on the right lists the
places a logo can go - the flat panel in the middle of the lid and the clear
band across the front of a latch - with the size of each in millimetres.
Each has a file picker of its own, so the lid and the latches can be branded
apart. PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, SVG, PDF, EPS or Illustrator AI. One logo on the
latches goes on every latch. A rack drawer has neither a lid nor a latch and
says so.
- Cut the background out. Artwork that already carries alpha
is left alone. Otherwise the border is read, and a border that is nearly all
one colour is offered as a background: Take the background out floods
in from the edges, so the white around a mark goes and the white inside an O
stays. How close a colour counts tunes it, and the chequerboard
preview shows what survived.
- Place it. Size scales it within its area.
Move arms dragging, so that a pull which starts on the logo slides it
instead of turning the view. Turn 180° flips it on its own face,
Centre it puts it back, and it cannot be dragged off the panel it is
printed on.
- Colour the case. Case parts gives every part a
colour and a translucency of its own - a see-through lid over a solid base, a
ghosted handle, whatever the picture needs. A mark in one colour that would
be lost on the part under it is printed in the other tone instead, which is
what Auto light/dark does; a coloured mark is never turned over.
- Light it. Five scenes - Studio, Soft light, Dramatic,
Showroom and Daylight - then Exposure, a Shadow on the floor and
How dark it is, Shade the crevices, and Surface grain for
the texture of the mould.
- Frame it. Drag to turn, scroll to zoom. The camera here is
perspective, not parallel, so the near corner looks nearer, and the view is
unrestricted. The named views - Iso flat, Iso standing, Front, Top, Left,
Right - put the case back the CAD way up.
- Save it. Pick a Resolution - what is on screen,
twice that, or a fixed width - and press Save PNG. The framing never
changes with the size, so what you see is what is saved: a transparent
background, with the floor shadow in the picture.
Worth knowing
- There is no section and no case-wide transparency slider here. Both belong
to a drawing of the inside of a case, which is what the Layouter is for.
- Background picture, under the lighting, puts a photo behind the case,
filling the view. Blur and Darken make the case stand out from it,
and it goes into the saved PNG unless In the saved PNG is off.
- Save project, under the lighting, writes the case, its colours, the
lighting, your logos with their placement, and the view to a file. Open
project puts the picture back exactly - a PDF or EPS logo included,
without the geometry worker.
- PDF, EPS and AI are PostScript, which no browser reads: they go to the
geometry worker and come back cropped to the ink. Without a worker, bitmaps
and SVG still work and a PDF says what is missing.
- Where a logo may go is measured off the mesh when the models are built,
not guessed at run time: the largest flat rectangle on the lid that nothing
stands over, and the clear band across a latch face.
